Through a diegesies of two centuries, passing by the XIX and XX centuries with all its convulsions, the Luísa Beltrão tethralogy tries to catch not only the way how the national identity was made, but mainly to understand the leading process in order to build a personal identity. So it is questioned the memory role as an indispensable condition to the maintenance of an unite and cohesive identity (as it is the case of the characters conde de Aguim and tia Elisinha, among others) and the perverse effects coming from its destruction (showed by the eternal search of the "I" by Conta and in the identity crises faced by Gena).
