We live in a technological era in which human beings have the power and proud will to dominate nature. It is a power of such magnitude and effects that urgently requests ethical awareness on the conspicuous transformation and ongoing destruction of the Biosphere. Principles like the responsibility one proposed by Hans Jonas, or the precautionary one, are needed to control that scientific and technological power, because it turned from promise into threat. The first demands responsibility to the future of life on Earth, the second an attitude of alertness to the risks and catastrophes that the present techno-scientific civilization may provoke. We are persuaded that both are essential for the establishment of an Ecoethics at the height of our time.
