Abstract

LOUREIRO, A.; BRASIL, S.  and  YOKOYAMA, L.. Study of the soil corrosivity contaminated by chemical substances through tests of loss of mass and Index of Steinrath. Corros. Prot. Mater. [online]. 2007, vol.26, n.4, pp.113-121. ISSN 0870-1164.

The present study aims to evaluate the influence of some pollutants on the soil aggressiveness, considering pipelines without protection and high moisture content. The soil used in this study is named Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo, the most representative soil in Brazil according to the Brazilian Soil Classification. Chemical compounds (sulfuric acid, ammonia and 1,2-dichloroethane) were added to soil samples in order to evaluate the soil aggressiveness up to four months, by means of weight loss measurements and Steinrath’s Index. It wasn’t observed total agreement between results obtained by Steinrath’s Index and weight loss tests, leading to the conclusion that soil corrosiveness determination needs more than one assessment method.

Keywords : Soil Aggressiveness; Buried Pipeline; Soil Contamination.
