SANTOS, Dulcínea; GULYURTLU, Ibrahim y CABRITA, Isabel. Materials and Energy: Thermochemical Conversion of Fuels. Corros. Prot. Mater. [online]. 2010, vol.29, n.3, pp.78-90. ISSN 0870-1164.
Fossil fuels are responsible for three quarters of energy supply in the world. Regarding thermochemical conversion of fuels, significant developments have been made and are in progress taking into account security of energy production and supply at affordable cost and with reduced environmental impact. The demand of materials capable of operating at much higher temperatures has grown continuously in the last decades. In this work, a synthesis is made about the state of the art of materials currently used for manufacture of equipment for energy production by means of technologies associated with thermochemical processes (combustion, namely in fluidized bed, gasification, liquefaction and pyrolysis) of different fuels. Characteristics of different conversion processes and agressivity/corrosivity characteristics of fuels (fossil, biofuels and waste) are correlated with characteristics of materials to be used for equipment manufacturing, concerning their resistance to corrosion and thermomechanical properties.
