Abstract

GOGOLA, E.  and  ZARA, A.. Study of corrosion in ultrafiltration plant of effluents in a pulp and paper company. Corros. Prot. Mater. [online]. 2014, vol.33, n.4, pp.87-94. ISSN 0870-1164.

This paper describes the study of the influence of chemicals employed in membrane cleaning, in the ultrafiltration plant in the effluent treatment station, in a pulp and paper company, located in Paraná State - Brazil. There have been determined the corrosion potential, the polarization resistance and the Tafel constants through electrochemical methods, according to the ASTM G 59-97 Standard. Through these data, it has been possible to determine the electrochemical corrosion rates. As electrolytes, there have been used the effluent to be treated, and solutions of NaOH 500 mg/L, H2SO2 0.012 mol/L and 0.1 mol/L and H2O2 5.0 g/L and 10.0 g/L, at 25ºC. It has been found that the corrosion rate of AISI 1020 steel in sulfuric acid was 1.26 mm/year, turning it into a non-recommended material. The AISI 316L steel has presented a good performance, with a corrosion rate of 0.0033 mm/year in the effluent. The best performing material has been the SAF 2205 duplex steel, with a corrosion rate of 0.0029 mm/year in sulphuric acid. From the results of the present study it has become possible to suggest a sequence for plant cleaning.
