Abstract

SANTOS, Maria Natércia de Sousa. Contribuição para o Conhecimento das Relações Quercus suber - Biscogniauxia mediterranea (syn. Hypoxilon mediterraneum) . Silva Lus. [online]. 2003, vol.11, n.1, pp.21-29. ISSN 0870-6352.

Biscogniauxia mediterranea (de Not). Kuntze, the causal agent of the well-known charcoal disease, is widely spread in mediterranean region affecting mainly several Quercus species. In spite of its close association with cork oak stand decline, several discordant opinions have been put forward regarding the relationships between this fungus and its preferred host - the cork oak. An appraisal of the available data on this subject was done, having as main goal to elucidate some aspects of the symptomatology patterns, mycoflora associated with trees in different decline phases and fungus pathogenicity. A general analysis of the results achieved, points to the conclusion that B. mediterranea behaves mainly as saprophyte.

Keywords : cork oak; decline; Biscogniauxia mediterranea.
