Abstract

CASTRO, João; MARTINS, Luís; ARANHA, José  and  MACEDO, Fernando. Aerial Navigation System Adapted for Small and Medium Format Photography. Silva Lus. [online]. 2004, vol.12, n.2, pp.213-225. ISSN 0870-6352.

In this paper one can find details of an aerial navigation system adapted for small format photography acquired from a light aircraft (Cessna 172).  This arrangement is controlled by a portable PC and GPS receiver with suitable software, and an intervalometer adapted from a off the shelf digital metronome. The system was tested over a small study area with acceptable results concerning the flight precision. The system can be developed and used with low costs and may therefore be recommended as an efficient tool for spatial data sampling in local forestry and environment monitoring.

Keywords : Small format aerial photography; aerial navigation; GPS; GIS; forest survey; environment monitoring.
