Abstract

MAIA, Miguel; RUSSO-ALMEIDA, Paulo A.  and  PEREIRA, José O.. Characterization of Pollen Spectra in Alentejo Honey, Portugal. Silva Lus. [online]. 2005, vol.13, n.1, pp.95-103. ISSN 0870-6352.

The pollen spectra of 36 samples of honey produced in the Alentejo region (Portugal) were analysed during the year 2000. These samples were treated through acetolysis and at least 1200 pollen grains were counted per sample. 27 botanical families and 36 pollinic types were identified. Lavandula stoechas and Echium plantagineum were the principle nectariferous species in the pollen spectra. Of the 36 samples analysed, 39% were unifloral of Lavander honey, 33% of Viper's bugloss honey and 28% of multifloral honey.

Keywords : pollen analysis; botanical origin; geographical origin; Lavandula stoechas; Echium plantagineum.
