Abstract

CARVALHO, João P. F.. Site Index Curves of Pyrenean-Oak (Quercus pyrenaica Willd.) Stands. Silva Lus. [online]. 2006, vol.14, n.1, pp.75-84. ISSN 0870-6352.

This paper presents site quality curves for Pyrenean-oak (Quercus pyrenaica Willd.) stands, obtained from a stand dominant height growth model. The algebraical difference equation method was used with all possible growth intervals. Five site quality classes were defined, with a site index ranging from 7.0 to 22.0 m height for a reference age of 50 years. A wide range of the site index was revealed for this species. A way for tree age estimation was given from age at breast height, showing that the number of years to achieve this level is independent of site quality.

Keywords : Quercus pyrenaica Willd.; site quality; dominant height growth.
