Abstract

PEREIRA, Carlos  and  GIL, Luís. The Problem of Cork Taint In Cork Stoppers and the Process for their Elimination/Reduction . Silva Lus. [online]. 2006, vol.14, n.1, pp.101-111. ISSN 0870-6352.

This paper intends to detail the problem of cork taint in cork stoppers, which is one of the most sensitive points in the worldwide cork and wine industry today. Based on the characterization of this problem we present a compilation of the main methods for the elimination/reduction of cork taint since its detection in the 1980’s. This work is a result of exhaustive bibliographical research in different databases (articles and patents), as well as knowledge gathered from the companies involved in the reality of this problem. This article intends to divulge the practical studies on the elimination/reduction of cork taint in the cork stoppers, its evolution in time, as well as the last references made to this problem.  This could be a very important contribution towards the elimination/reduction of the cited problem.

Keywords : 2,4,6-trichloroanisole; TCA; treatment; cork; stoppers.
