Abstract

COUTINHO, Henrique Douglas  and  BARBOSA, Alyne Rats. Phytoremediation: General Topics and Methods for Utilization. Silva Lus. [online]. 2007, vol.15, n.1, pp.103-117. ISSN 0870-6352.

Nowadays, sectors of some areas have been observing with great interest the increasing number of pollutants in the world. For this reason, the interest for remediation techniques grows, having at this moment a great focus on the soil. Several techniques are studied and the fitoremediation takes a prominence place due to its efficiency in the depollution of soils and also because it's cost is more accessible than other techniques. The present work takes in account the research carried out in polluted soils, with the objective to present the peculiar characteristics of the fitoremediation techniques and also others techniques that are used in the remediation of contaminated soils. A bibliographic revision through the analysis of the available material in international data bases SciELO, LILACS, HIGHWIRE, PUBMED and SCIRUS was carried out, which encloses several works that are being developed in the area of remediation of environmental pollutants. The organisms, mainly the plants, have specific ways for removal, immobilization or transformation of specific pollutants. The study and the subsequent evaluation of the interaction among soil, plant and pollutants are necessary and is also a promising research area for the remediation of environment. So, it is necessary to have more studies carried out in this area for a better understanding of the plants fitoremediative capacity and its possible use in the pollution combat.

Keywords : pollutants; contaminated areas; fitoremediation; heavy metals; herbicides; organochlorine.
