GONCALVES, Ana Cristina; DIAS, Susana Saraiva y FERREIRA, Alfredo Gonçalves. Definition of Sylvicultural Models at the Forest Planning Scale. Silva Lus. [online]. 2008, vol.16, n.Especial, pp.97-110. ISSN 0870-6352.
The goal of a general silvicultural model is to materialise the production according to a set of techniques of forest stands management. Silvicultural models were initially developed at the stand level, and latter at management unit level. The development of general silvicultural models at the regional forest planning level brings new challenges, as the degree of abstraction, in what concerns the management operations, is larger. On the other hand, the silvicultural models were initially developed for pure even aged stands, and later for uneven aged and mixed stands. It should also be pointed out that the actual tendency is for a multi-functional management, where the several productions have to be considered and the model has to be flexible, in order to follow both the tree and stand development and also the market fluctuations.
Palabras clave : model of silviculture; scale; multifunctionality; management; flexibility.
