Abstract

A research of logging machine performance evaluation was carried out testing forwarder model, according to a time-and-motion study in twenty-five operational cycles of wood transportation. The whole forwarder operational cycle includes empty transportation, wood-loading, full transportation and unloading of an eight-year-old Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden harvested in a forest at Lencois Paulista County, Sao Paulo State, Brazil. The parameters evaluated were wood partial charges across loading and unloading time consumption, amount of logs across time of wood loading and unloading, harvested logs distribution across time of wood loading and also time of wood loading across the unloading one. All values were submitted to regression analysis at 5% significance, under the 't' and 'F' tests application. Wood partial charges and time of loading consumption showed mathematical correlation under a polynomial model pattern, while the parameters wood partial charges and time of unloading consumption also presented relationship, although by following a potential model pattern. All the other analysis tested were not significative, due to some factors concerning variability of logs diameters, logs distribution on the harvested field, loading and unloading pattern and features of the Eucalyptus man-made forest.
