Abstract

CHEBOUTIMEZIOU, Nadjba; DOUMANDJI, Salaheddine  and  CHEBOUTI, Yahia. The Seasonal Entomofauna of the Pistaccio Atlas Tree (Pistacia atlantica Desf.) in the Central Steppe of Algeria. Silva Lus. [online]. 2011, vol.19, n.Especial, pp.1-9. ISSN 0870-6352.

The pistachio Atlas tree is a rustic xerophilous plant which can be used in plantations to prevent desertification. It can also be grafted with the pistachio tree (Pistacia vera L.), an economically important species. The entomofauna associated with the pistachio Atlas tree was studied in the natural reserve of Mergueb (M'sila), from April 2002 to April 2003. Insects were collected using pitfall traps, with the hymenoptera order dominating the captures (50%), followed by the coleoptera (30%), homoptera (8%) and finally the heteroptera and diptera, with 6% of the captures each.

Keywords : Mergueb; dayas; hymenoptera; coleoptera; homoptera; heteroptera; diptera.
