Resumen

ANUNCIACAO, Carlos. Ajustamento marital em ex-combatentes da Guerra Colonial com e sem perturbação pós-stress traumático. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 1997, vol.15, n.4, pp.595-604. ISSN 0870-8231.

After a short synthesis on the clinical discription and origin of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder PTSD concept, we present a comparative (exploratory) study about the PTSD between two groups of individuals (n=20 + n=20), veterans of the Portuguese colonial war with and without PTSD. We tried to detect differences, significant or not, between both groups concerning the Marital Adjustment and Problem Area in the conjugal life. The results obtained reveal that individuals with PTSD do not show more relevant difficulties of Marital Adjustement (tenderess, communication and discussion) than individuals without PTSD (pSc= .7555> .05). However, individuals with PTSD understand their marriage to be «less happier» (p= .0095< .05) and reveal significantly more problems in the different areas of their conjugal life than those without PTSD (pAP = .0003< .05). The limitations of this study are imposed by the lack of studies about the Marital Adjustment and Problem Area in Portugal, and by the fact that each sample refers to a restricted number of individuals in each group.

Palabras clave : Posttraumatic stress; PTSD; portuguese colonial war.
