In this article, the evolution of the concepts of identity and intimacy are reviewed. Based on the assumption that different societies at different times provide different approaches on selfhood and on intimate relationships - especially on love, sexuality and self disclosure - the historical and the psychological data are integrated to make a path of both concepts since the Late Medieval era until the present day, emphasizing the changes that popular culture and postmoderm societies have brought.
