The main purpose of the study was the evaluation of the efficacy of a primary prevention addiction program "Growing up Playing" with children in basic school. A number of studies have demonstrated the efficacy of the multimodal models in primary prevention programs. This study employed a socio-affective model (Negreiros de Carvalho, 1991). A sample of 109 children participated. A Pré-Post test design with control group was employed. The measures used included the CABS (Michelson & Mood, 1982) that measures communication style, the CDI (Kovacs, 1985) that measures depression, the SPPC (Harter, 1985) for self-concept and a new instrument "Eager to Live" (cartoons) created for the purpose of the study that assessed peers pressure, decision making and assertive style. Results and research implications are presented and discussed.
