The authors present a review of the concept of infancy depression, with reference to symptoms, ethiology and prognosis. The paper is based on the analysis of 20 cases with the diagnosis of infant depression who received therapeutic intervention in UPI. In all cases the following items were collected: Motive of consultation, Age, Symptom onset, Environment/parenting problems, Source of referral. Two sub-groups were identified that differed by the presence or absence of chronicity in environment perturbation, symptom constelation and age of child at first consultation. Different therapeutic evolution in these two subgroups is illustrated with presentation of two clinical vignettes.
