In this article we present the theoretical support and describe a research study which was concerned to analyse the role of Portuguese names for two-digit numbers on the numerical development of pre-school age children. The name for two-digit numbers was considered according how they clearly show their composition as a collection of multiples of ten and of units. This study was part of a more vast research project: Mais-Pais Project.
