In order to analyse the mediating role of the discursive format in the retention and recall of information among pre-school and primary school children, two studies focusing on a Picasso painting and a trip to the Oceanário were carried out. The results demonstrate the importance of verbalisation of information for posterior recall and show that a narrative framing structure was adequate in both situations because it facilitated the retention of previously verbalised information and the organisation of recall, and did not inhibit the capacity to invent or distract from observation.
