The aim of this study was to analyse the quality of the classroom environment as an environment which facilitates the sociomoral development of pupils. Interpersonal conflicts in the classroom and, particularly, the processes and strategies used to deal with these conflicts were used as indicators of the developmental quality of the context of the classroom. The theoretical principles which framed this study are presented, with a particular emphasis on the concept of school as a just community, presented and operationalised by L. Kohlberg (1980). The methodology of the study and the composition of the sample are described. Some relevant results of the study are discussed and we demonstrate that these results do not allow us to define the classroom as a sufficiently good environment for the sociomoral development of pupils.
