Resumen

JORGE-MONTEIRO, Fátima  y  MATIAS, João. Atitudes face ao recovery na doença mental em utilizadores e profissionais de uma organização comunitária: Uma ajuda na planificação de intervenções efectivas? . Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.1, pp.111-125. ISSN 0870-8231.

In Portugal the research and literature concerning the recovery in mental illness is still limited. This study aimed to assess recovery attitudes in two different groups: mental health professionals and people with mental illness from a NGO. The sample of 30 people included 15 participants for each of the above mentioned groups. The instrument used was "Recovery Attitudes Questionnaire 16" (J. R. Borkin, J. J. Steffen, L. B. Ensfield, K. Krzton, H. Wishnick, K. Wilder, & N. Yangarber, 2000), which was translated and adapted for this research. A lack of an agreed-on recovery model or paradigm represents a distinction over the definition of recovery: process versus outcome. Two additional questions were added to the original instrument in order to understand the perception of both groups on this distinction. Both groups showed very positive attitudes towards recovery in mental illness. Also both groups tended to refuse the idea of recovery as a process.

Palabras clave : Recovery; empowerment; mental illness; attitudes; mental health professionals; consumers.
