Abstract

CRUZ, Mónica Pedreiras  and  PINHO, Maria Salomé. Sugestionabilidade em pessoas idosas: Um estudo com a Escala de Sugestionabilidade de Gudjonsson (GSS 1). Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.2, pp.199-213. ISSN 0870-8231.  https://doi.org/10.14417/ap.613.

This study aimed to understand some of the factors that influence the interrogative suggestibility in older people. In this context we sought to analyze the existence differences in interrogative suggestibility as a function of age as well as to ascertain its relationship with cognitive variables and anxiety. The sample included 52 elderly (aged 78 to 83), and the same number of adults between 42 and 52 years. The following assessment instruments were administered: Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale 1 (GSS1), Mini Mental State Examination, Verbal Fluency Test of Categories, subtests of Vocabulary and Digit Span of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-III, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Adults and Raven’s Matrices. Between the groups there were significant differences in the results obtained in “Yield 1” and “Shift” (GSS 1), Verbal Fluency, Digit Span and Anxiety. In concern to moderate correlation values between interrogative suggestibility and cognitive measures and anxiety, these were only registered between Total Suggestibility and Raven’s Matrices performance time, for both groups. It is concluded that the prior knowledge by many participants of the interviewer who administered the GSS 1 can influence the obtained results on this scale. The results are discussed regarding their forensic relevance.

Keywords : Interrogative suggestibility; Elderly; Cognition; Anxiety.
