Resumen

CARRILHO, Luísa; GAMEIRO, Cátia  y  RIBEIRO, André. Envelhecer no concelho de Oeiras: Estudo numa população institucionalizada. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.1, pp.121-135. ISSN 0870-8231.  https://doi.org/10.14417/ap.736.

With the increase in life expectancy and the decline in the number of births, is noticeable the aging of the Portuguese population, which therefore presents a greater vulnerability to violence. This article is the summary of an exploratory-descriptive study carried out in 30 homes for the elderly in different parishes in the municipality of Oeiras that aimed to identify in institutionalized elderly without cognitive deficit, depression symptoms, functional dependency and situations of physical, psychological, financial, sexual violence and neglicence. The sample included 136 elderly, mainly female and aged over 80 years, which were subjected to a brief examination of the mental state and who had no cognitive deficit. The results showed the presence of depressive symptoms (65.4%) and significant functional dependence (58.8%). Although the majority of the elderly (86.0%) have said they like to reside in the institution, 33.1% reported complaints of violence, in particular situations of financial violence (22.8%). The authors consider these alarming data, with a focus on violence, stressing the need for a multidisciplinary response, in order to allow this population to age with safety and a bio-psycho-social well-being.
