Abstract

CORREIA, Filipa  and  MOTA, Catarina Pinheiro. Ambiente familiar e qualidade da vinculação amorosa: Papel mediador da individuação em jovens adultos. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2016, vol.34, n.1, pp.15-29. ISSN 0870-8231.  https://doi.org/10.14417/ap.1018.

The experience established in the family environment is a relevant factor for the development of the individuation process in young adults. The quality of romantic attachment represents, in the light of the ecological perspective, the transition beyond the family environment, constituting a goal in the emotional development of young adults. This research aims to analyze the role of the family environment on the quality of romantic attachment, as well as test the mediational role of the individuation process in the previous association. The sample was composed by 432 young adults, aged between 18 and 30 years. Data collection was done through the Family Environment Scale, the Individuation Test for Emerging Adults and the Romantic Attachment Questionnaire. The results suggest a positive prediction of family environment from the quality of romantic attachment. There was a mediational role of individuation in relation to mother in the association between family environment and the quality of romantic attachment process, however, the same does not occur through the process of individuation in relation to father. Results will be analyzed in the light of attachment theory and the ecological perspective of Bronfenbrenner, to discuss the importance of a healthy family environment in adaptive development of young adults.

Keywords : Family environment; Individuation; Romantic attachment.
