Abstract

PORTO, Ana Maria da Silva  and  SOARES, Adriana Benevides. Diferenças entre expectativas e adaptação acadêmica de universitários de diversas áreas do conhecimento. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2017, vol.35, n.1, pp.13-24. ISSN 0870-8231.  https://doi.org/10.14417/ap.1170.

The aim of this study was to investigate differences among students from different areas of knowledge in relation to expectations and academic adaptation. Participated in this study 400 students from public and private institutions in Rio de Janeiro state, aged between 18 and 59 years old. Three questionnaires were applied, a sociodemographic, the Academic Involvement Questionnaire (QEA) version which assesses the expectations and the B version behavior, consisting of the subscales (Institutional Involvement; Vocational Involvement,Use of Resources; Social Involvement; Curricular Involvement) and Academic Experiences Questionnaire (QVA-r) reduced version on academic experiences, formed by the dimensions (personal, interpersonal, career, study; Institutional). Considering the expectations/behavior, results indicated very high expectations with a significant difference in the Resource Usage factor for students in the areas of Exact Sciences and Humanities. However, the best fit was no significant difference in staff size, for students in the areas of Exact and Applied Social Sciences, Career for the Humanities and Health and Institutional for the Humanities and Exact. Freshmen entering the university often have different expectations for the course as well as personal characteristics of knowledge and skills, which may reflect on their academic success.
