Resumen

AMARAL, Virgílio. Discursos políticos e retórica em torno da Lei da Unicidade Sindical na revolução portuguesa de 1974. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2017, vol.35, n.3, pp.263-280. ISSN 0870-8231.  https://doi.org/10.14417/ap.1304.

The main objective of the present work is to understand how the different opposing parties have formed different conceptions of the models of labour organisation through the analysis of political discourses around the Law on Union Uniqueness in the revolutionary context post-25th April 1974 in Portugal. On the one hand, the analysis is based on the proposed analysis of dialogical discourses by Marková (2006), as well as the analysis models on the rhetorical discourse by Billig (1991) and Castro (2002). On the other hand, it is based on the notions of argumentative dichotomy or ideological polarities by Van Dijk (2006). The discourses conveyed were reconstructed and it was verified that certain terms - like Union or Freedom - assume different meanings depending on the contending party. It was also found that certain rhetoric mechanisms listed by Castro (2002) and Amaral and Pereira (2014) tend to be used by each of the sides. Additionally, the analysis of the corpus of political discourses enables the identification of the persuasive unidirectional communications’ own mechanism (such as propaganda). Although this is not typical in dialogical discourses, it enables the access to the argumentative dichotomies/ideological polarities that sustain the different conceptions on the modalities of labour organisation proposed at the time.

Palabras clave : Political discourses; Rhetoric; Propaganda; Portuguese revolution; 25th April 1974; Single Union Law.
