AZEVEDO, Vera  e  SANI, Ana Isabel. Ser ou não ouvida: Perceções de crianças expostas à violência doméstica. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2017, vol.35, n.4, pp.487-497. ISSN 0870-8231.  https://doi.org/10.14417/ap.1325.

This qualitative study, with exploratory and descriptive character, was conducted among children who were victims of domestic violence and aimed to understand how they see the fact of being or not being heard in the proceedings in which they were involved. The sample was composed of ten Portuguese children, aged between seven and seventeen years, of both sexes, who were accommodated with their mothers in a shelter for victims of domestic violence for at least a month. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview, previously tested. Analyzing the content of the answers, the emergence of two categories is highlighted: “auscultation of children by adults” and “court participation” based on which the importance of listening to the child’s opinion, helping to understand how the child thinks and feels regarding certain issues and how they can contribute to solving certain problems are discussed. Most children want to express some of their needs to the magistrate, one of them being the warranty of security, namely through the removal of the aggressor. The importance of the participation of children in court decisions are discussed based on these qualitative results.
