Introduction: The proFamílias program was developed to help families with chronic (stroke and cancer). It is a psycho-educative intervention model and uses a multiple family discussion groups format. Objective: This study intends to know the efficacy impact of the proFamílias program in chronicle patients in cases of stroke and cancer. Material and methods: This study includes a sample of 8 cancer patients and of 8 stroke patients and their families for a total of 37 elements, who participated in the psycho-educational intervention program. The questionnaire was constructed for the purpose of evaluating the efficacy of the psycho-educational intervention program. Results: The main results indicate that: (i) participation in the program was very useful for all, (ii) the main gains are the acquisition of information and a greater understanding about the disease, (iii) the most frequent suggestions are to maintain weekly sessions. Conclusion: Psychoeducational interventions aim to increase the sense of efficacy and help the patient's family to know how to deal with the disease. The study and evaluation of the effectiveness of psychoeducational intervention programs are essential, since some research suggest they are associated with improved patients' and family's well-being and act as important coping mechanisms.
