MUFINDA, Franco Cazembe  e  KLEIN, Carlos Henrique. Knowledge of risk factors and prevention of human brucellosis transmission in the livestock professionals in the province of Namibe - Angola - 2009. Rev. Port. Sau. Pub. [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.1, pp.88-95. ISSN 0870-9025.

Background: Human brucellosis is endemic, and a public health problem in Africa, including in Angola. The objective was to observe the levels of knowledge of risk factors and prevention in occupational transmission of brucellosis in livestock in the Province of Namibe (Angola) comparing the farmers with workers in slaughterhouses, municipal halls of slaughter and the slaughterhouse. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in November 2009, with application of a questionnaire on socio-demographics, knowledge of risk factors and prevention. All workers (N = 40) and a random sample of farmers (n = 130), controlled by the provincial Department of Livestock Namibe, were interviewed. Results: 60.8 % of professionals declared to ignore what brucellosis was. The creators demonstrated greater knowledge than the workers. No relevant difference was found as far as the prophylaxis is concerned. Conclusions: There is no association between knowledge and prophylaxis of human brucellosis.
