TAVARES, Ana; PEDRO, Nuno  e  URBANO, Joaquim. Lack of training in Basic Life Support by the citizen: A public health problem? What is the right age to start?. Rev. Port. Sau. Pub. [online]. 2016, vol.34, n.1, pp.101-104. ISSN 0870-9025.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rpsp.2015.06.006.

Cardiopulmonary arrest is the main cause of death. The immediate initiation of Basic Life Support (BLS) protocol increases the likelihood of survival. The BLS training in Portugal, although recommended for all citizens, is in a very early stage. The early start of the BLS training in schools translates into adults with skills in resuscitation situations. This raises the question: to what age should the BLS training start? When started at the end of the first cycle, it presents itself as a very attractive and viable option, although it is not consensual among the scientific community that the BLS maneuvers recommended by the European Resuscitation Council are properly carried out.
