BERTOSSI, Ana Paula Almeida et al. Influence of marble cutting waste on soil hydraulic conductivity and water quality. Rev. de Ciências Agrárias [online]. 2011, vol.34, n.1, pp.123-134. ISSN 0871-018X.

The high quantities of wastes that have been produced by dimension stone industry and the characteristics of these materials indicate possibilities of using them as soil enriching and corrective of soil acidity. However, their environmental effects are not known requiring studies to guarantee a safe utilization. Tests using a constant head permeameter interconnected to columns filled with mixture of soil and marble waste were conducted aiming to analyze the influence of wastes on soil hydraulic conductivity and quality of percolated water. Results showed that the aggregation of marble waste on soil did not affect the hydraulic conductivity but caused increasing on electric conductivity, pH, Ca and Mg besides decreasing on Mn content of percolated water. Water quality parameters were compared with limits fixed by Brazilian standardization of Environmental National Council (Conselho Nacional de Meio Ambiente - CONAMA), in relation to groundwater quality. Also, some parameters were analyzed according to degree of restriction on using to irrigation, in order to verify if waters would cause damage to plant growth.
