PLETSCH, Alessandra; SILVA, Vanessa N.  e  BEUTLER, Amauri N.. Treatment of canola seeds with zinc. Rev. de Ciências Agrárias [online]. 2014, vol.37, n.2, pp.241-247. ISSN 0871-018X.

Canola is the third oil plant most cultivated in the world. Several factors may affect canola yield as micronutrient deficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of treatment of seeds with different doses of Zn, on germination, seed physiological potential and initial establishment of canola plants. Seeds of canola, cultivars ‘Hyola 61’ and ‘Hyola 433’ (each one represented by a lot) were treated with Zn at six application rates (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mL per kg-1 of seed) of Quimifol Seed 78® with 787.5 g L-1 of Zn. The experimental design was completely randomized for the physiological seed potential tests and randomized blocks for the initial plant establishment evaluations. After treatment, seeds were evaluated by germination (speed of germination and final percentage), accelerated aging, shoot and root length and dry seedling weight, and the initial establishment of plants (percentage and velocity of plant emergence, shoot and root length and dry plant weight). Zinc treatment benefited seed germination, physiological potential and initial plant establishment at rates from 1 to 5 mL/ kg seeds, according with the parameters evaluated and cultivar.
