Resumen

OLIVEIRA, Silvia Sanielle Costa de; CUNHA FILHO, Cleomar Peixoto; SOUSA, Letícia Rodrigues  y  CRUZ, Sihélio Júlio Silva. Morphometric characterization of seed, fruit and seeds and seed germination of Physocalymma scaberrimum Pohl. Rev. de Ciências Agrárias [online]. 2018, vol.41, n.2, pp.51-60. ISSN 0871-018X.  https://doi.org/10.19084/RCA17210.

Physocalymma scaberrimum is a tree plant with great ornamental value and potential for restoration of degraded areas. Thus, the objective was to characterize the fruits, seeds and seedlings morphologically, as well as evaluate seed germination. For biometric characterization, eight samples of 100 fruits and seeds were used. The seeds were sectioned longitudinally and transversely for the morphological characterization and in the post-seminal study, the growth processes of the seedlings were observed daily and, during the germination test, the abnormalities were described and illustrated and the established criteria to characterize the normal seedling were: healthy root development, total cotyledon expansion and eophilic appearance. For the germination test, two substrates and eight temperatures were used, arranged in a completely randomized design with 4 replicates of 25 seeds, in a factorial scheme 8 x 2 (temperature x substrate). The averages were compared by the Tukey test. The fruits have an average size of 17.4 mm wide by 11.5 mm long, while the seeds have an average of 4.0 mm wide by 3.92 mm long and 0.17 mm thick; The axial linear type embryo occupies less than ¼ of the seed volume with expanded cotyledons and absent endosperm; The germination is of the epigeal type and the seedling phanerocotiledonar. The paper substrate and the temperature of 25° C provide a higher percentage and speed of germination.
