Maintaining the growth of agricultural production and reducing the impacts of this production on natural resources has become one of the great challenges of humanity. This research aims to characterize the variation of the bird assembly between pastoral areas and adjacent forest remnants, evaluating the impact of this land use change on birds diversity. This study will also discuss the methodology of passive acoustic monitoring (MAP) for "rapid assessment" of biodiversity in the rural landscapes of the Atlantic Forest Biome. The data were collected in two habitats (Forest and Pasture) on four rural properties in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Recorders were simultaneously installed within these two habitats at two different points for two days in each field visit, in spring and summer of 2016/17. There were 97 species of birds belonging to 44 families. In the forest habitat were found 77 species and in the 48 pasture, with 28 species in the two habitats. In this study it was verified that the number of species found reflects the consequences of habitat losses in the Atlantic Forest Biome. The MAP assessments were unequivocal in relation to the impact of farming activities on bird biodiversity. Even in the face of the widespread decharacterization of the natural vegetation, a rich avifauna can still be observed in the forest area.
