The use of high quality physiological and sanitary seeds represents an important strategy in the implantation of organic tomato crops. This work was carried out to evaluate the effect of sanitary treatments on physiological and sanitary quality of seeds of tomato grown under organic management. We used six seed lots of cherry tomatoes coming from Rio Grande do Sul and Espírito Santo. The seeds were subjected to alternative sanitary treatments that consisted of soaking seeds in plant extracts and in distilled water, seeds microbiolization, thermotherapy, in addition to standard treatment with commercial fungicide and a control without any treatment. Then the seeds were evaluated for physiological and sanitary quality. Timbó extract reduced the physiological quality of tomato seeds. The treatment of seeds with alfavaca-clove extract and timbó extract inhibited the incidence of Penicillium sp. in cherry tomato seeds, produced under organic management. The alfavaca-cravo extract is efficient in maintaining the physiological and sanitary quality of cherry tomato seeds under organic management
