SANTOS, Renecleide Viana dos et al. Effect of tillage operations performed with animal traction on soil physical properties¥. Rev. de Ciências Agrárias [online]. 2020, vol.43, n.3, pp.1-23.  Epub 01-Out-2020. ISSN 0871-018X.  https://doi.org/10.19084/rca.18675.

The purpose of the study was to observe the effect tillage operations performed with animal traction on soil physical properties. The study was conducted in February 2018, in an agricultural area with corn stubble, at Quinta do Poulão, Bragança. Soil sampling was done immediately before and after tillage operations. The implements used were the scarifier, the moldboard plow and the combination of both, with models adequate for motorized traction and for animal traction. The study variables were initial (Ksi) and final (Ksf) permeability, bulk density (Dap), porosity at 1h of drainage (P1h), moisture percentage at 1h of (%H1h) and moisture percentage at 24h of drainage (%H24h). The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the two types of traction applied; however, significant differences were identified between the sampling moment (before and after application of the treatments) for the variables Ksi, Ksf, Dap, %H1h and %H24h. Thus, machinery or animal-powered implements exerted changes in soil properties, especially in those related to water retention and movement, positively affecting these parameters. Results demonstrate the need for further long-term studies to evaluate more deeply the effect of animal traction on soil properties.
