Abstract

AGRE, Mariana; ROQUE, Vanessa; BARROSO, João  and  BRITO, Iva. Somatoform disorder in children: clinical case. Arq Med [online]. 2012, vol.26, n.3, pp.109-111. ISSN 2183-2447.

Hip pain is a common complaint in children that in most cases requires a systematic diagnostic approach. This should be guided by age, previous triggering factors, including traumatic, infectious or otherwise, rhythm/intensity of pain and functional changes. Nowadays, the growing recognition of somatoform syndromes in the pediatric population, particularly in females, requires us to broaden the already wide range of underlying conditions of chronic pain in children. The authors describe a case report of a nine year-old child presented with hip pain of one-year evolution and secondary to school violence, and after present some considerations about the differential diagnostic of hip pain in children based on a non exhaustive review of the literature.

Keywords : Somatoform disorder; pain; hip; child.
