Abstract
MEIRA, Manuel Vale Fernandes. The siege to the schools' autonomy: the electronic platforms in the administration of education. Rev. Port. de Educação [online]. 2021, vol.34, n.1, pp.95-108. Epub Apr 20, 2022. ISSN 0871-9187. https://doi.org/10.21814/rpe.18365.
The article analyses the educational administration’s electronic platforms’ impact on the topic of schools and school actors’ decentralization/centralization and reinforcement/limitation of their autonomy. The results presented are based on a case study centred on a school organization and show us that measures to strengthen the schools’ autonomy and decentralization have in fact been emptied through electronic platforms’ actions. The electronic platforms’ algorithm rigidity favours compliance with central administration decisions and their acceptance, in such a way that they are perceived as mere technical operations aimed at achieving the most correct way of operating the electronic mechanism. On the other hand, the intensification of technological specialization and its concentration in the centre increase the school organizations’ sense of deprivation, which often prefer centralization as a form of response to the attribution of competences without the corresponding conditions for their exercise. This circumstance reinforces centralized bureaucratic control and further limits the autonomy of schools.
