SOGAYAR, Roberta Leme; SANTOS, Diego Ribeiro  e  REJOWSKI, Mirian. Altruistic hospitality in higher education: Perspective of students on faculty hospitableness. Rev. Port. de Educação [online]. 2021, vol.34, n.2, pp.216-236.  Epub 03-Ago-2022. ISSN 0871-9187.  https://doi.org/10.21814/rpe.21271.

The exercise of hospitality presents itself as a great challenge, especially in the academic context regarding the relationship teacher-student, concerning an essential theme for the promotion of the best pedagogical practices and for hosting students. This descriptive study investigated the faculty altruistic hospitality from the perception of students of higher education institutions in Brazil. The literature on hospitality in the academic context, pedagogy of hospitality, and altruistic hospitality were the theoretical pillars supporting this research. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), it was tested the relationship between the constructs of faculty altruistic hospitality: Student First, Special Student and Happy Student. The sample consisted of 199 students from Brazilian institutions, with emphasis on undergraduate students of tourism. Evidence was found to support the hypotheses and the theoretical model adopted, indicating that: the teacher has altruistic characteristics and openness to the other, valuing students as individuals (the other) and respecting their alterity so that they feel happy; the teacher prioritizes students in pedagogical practices, realizing specific and heterogeneous needs of classes and promoting the well-being of students; the teacher from his altruistic characteristics promotes the involvement of students in pedagogical practices. It is considered that faculty hospitableness can have an impact on student success as well as on how a welcoming academic environment can promote well-being, favour learning, and train more humanized faculty members as well as students.
