Abstract
MIRANDA LERY SANTOS, Marina; PESSOA DA CUNHA LACAZ, Cristiane and TELLES, Marta Maria. Adaptation to higher education: perspective of students from the Aeronautics Institute of Technology. Rev. Port. de Educação [online]. 2022, vol.35, n.1, pp.242-263. Epub July 22, 2022. ISSN 0871-9187. https://doi.org/10.21814/rpe.21561.
This study aimed to analyze the adaptation process of students entering the Engineering courses at the Aeronautics Institute of Technology, from the perspective of the Theory of Social Representations. Interviews considering the concerns, facilities, and difficulties related to student life and everyday life were conducted with 31 students admitted in the years 2018 and 2019. The results show that students' concerns are focused on academic rigor, the stress related to time management to perform the tasks, and the development of transversal skills. Academic quality and support offered by colleagues and institutions are aspects that do not cause concern. The difficulty focuses on reconciling extracurricular and leisure activities, and living together in the accommodation was seen as a facility. These results guide actions that can be taken by educational institutions to expand efforts in the construction of psychoeducational projects to support new students.
