Abstract

DAMAS BEITES, Patrícia; ANDRADE FERREIRA PEEL, Misleine  and  PEREIRA PEIXOTO DA COSTA, Maria Cecília Rosas. Task design based on errors with complex numbers. Rev. Port. de Educação [online]. 2023, vol.36, n.1, e23017.  Epub June 01, 2023. ISSN 0871-9187.  https://doi.org/10.21814/rpe.25337.

Productions of higher education students, for an individual assessment through a proof task, are considered. Taking into account the mathematical concepts associated with the assessment, to classify the errors in the productions and, based on these, to construct tasks for the classroom were intended objectives. In this sense, the qualitative research makes use of content analysis with new criteria of categorization of errors. Errors related to the comprehension of consequences of the definition of modulus of a complex number and proof strategies in mathematics are identified. The proposals, for the students to explain and to make sense of errors with complex numbers, are: concept questions; erroneous examples; completion tasks; tasks for modifying the statement.

Keywords : Error; Proof in Mathematics; Modulus of a complex number; Task..
