Resumen

SOARES, Joana Bruno; LOPES, Anabela  y  BARBOSA, Manuel Pereira. Temporary tattoos: Are they harmless?. Rev Port Imunoalergologia [online]. 2014, vol.22, n.3, pp.227-229. ISSN 0871-9721.

Temporary tattooing with henna is traditionally used in islamic and oriental countries to dye hair, nails and skin. In recent years they have become increasingly more frequent in vacation resorts, due to its infectious risk ‑ free and painless application, limited duration and low cost. Henna can be prepared using natural ingredients or paraphenylenediamine (PPD), which is a potent sensitizer. We report the case of a teenage girl observed in the pediatric emergency department due to eczematous reaction on the hand, following a henna tattoo. During the etiological investigation she was found to be sensitized to PPD, through patch testing. The authors aim to alert for this practice which is becoming more frequent among children and might not be as harmless as it appears

Palabras clave : Contact dermatitis; eczema; henna; tattoo; PPD.
