Abstract

GOMES, Raquel et al. A peculiar case of anaphylaxis to apple and grean-beans. Rev Port Imunoalergologia [online]. 2015, vol.23, n.1, pp.21-27. ISSN 0871-9721.

Introduction: Cross -reactivity between aeroallergens and food is frequent in food allergy, taking as an example the birch-apple syndrome. However, allergy to Rosaceae (apple) due to sensitization to Bet v 1 is characterized by mild clinical manifestations (oral allergy syndrome), a typical phenotype of northern Europe. Case description: Male patient, 54 years, residente in Portugal, with history of rhinitis and three anaphylactic reactions after ingestion of apple and green -beans. The allergologic study showed positive skin prick tests and/or specific IgE to birch, apple and green beans, associated with a profile of sensitization to Bet v 1 and Gly m 4. Discussion/Conclusion: The initial clinical analysis seems to suggest allergy to Rosaceae by LTP sensitization. However, sensitization to birch and to Bet v 1 protein was confirmed and severity seems to be associated with the presence of sensitization to Gly m 4

Keywords : anaphylaxis; apple; Bet v 1; birch; Gly m 4; green beans.
