Abstract

In Portugal, mites are the most frequent causative agent of respiratory allergic diseases. In this paper we present a review on some of the fundamental aspects of immunotherapy with mite allergen, an aetiologic treatment for the allergic diseases caused by these agents. We briefly review how the mites started to be regarded as the main allergen in Portugal and in many other countries, the indication as to when to start or end immunotherapy with mite extracts and some recent data on adhesion, efficacy and safety of this form of therapy
