Abstract

RIBEIRO, Luís; COSTA, Emília; CLETO, Esmeralda  and  BARBOT, José. An approach to neutropenia: a point of view. Nascer e Crescer [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.4, pp.255-261. ISSN 0872-0754.

Neutropenia in a child can be diagnosed in quite varied contexts, ranging from the occasional finding to the extreme serious infection. Additionally etiology may be congenital or acquired, acute or chronic and primary or secondary. This diversity raises difficulties in the strategy of management, that should be protocol but also flexible. In this paper, the authors aim to structure a diagnostic approach considering these two aspects. The final section addresses some pathologies that may cause neutropenia in the pediatric population with more or less severity.

Keywords : neutropenia; acquired; congenital; child.
