Abstract

Introduction: Developmental dysplasia of the hip is a common disease and if not treated timely can evolve to hip arthrosis and arthroplasty. Objective: The article attempts to review the terminology, epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentation, complementary exams, treatment and prognosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip. Development: Routine screening based on clinical findings and risk factors allows early diagnosis and referral to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Conclusion: The early diagnosis of the developmental dysplasia of the hip is associated with less invasive and more effective treatments and a better prognosis.
