Abstract
LOBAO, Margarida. Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection: Experiences and Risk Behaviours. Sociologia [online]. 2021, vol.41, pp.45-62. Epub Feb 25, 2022. ISSN 0872-3419. https://doi.org/10.21747/08723419/soc41a3.
This article explores the experiences and risk behaviours of people living with human immunodeficiency virus. It analyzes the manifestations of individual behaviours, their meanings, but also the collective determinants that influence both prevention strategies and their absence. It also highlights the uniqueness of the experiences of human immunodeficiency virus infection in their relationship with gender, education, the body, among others, but also with behaviours and attitudes that result in processes of discrimination and stigmatization of infected people. For this purpose, a qualitative approach was mobilized, using semi- structured interviews. The results show that the experience of human immunodeficiency virus infection varies not only according to gender, but also due to the higher or lower school ship, economic and socio- professional capital of the interviewees, which provides them with different resources in the management of the disease.
