Abstract

REIS, Manuela. Between texts and Contexts:. Sociologia [online]. 2022, vol.44, pp.11-27.  Epub Mar 30, 2023. ISSN 0872-3419.  https://doi.org/10.21747/08723419/soc44a1.

What are the theoretical foundations on which we base our sociological view of the world? How do we communicate it, in summary, to students in the context of their basic university training? What principles should guide the process of appropriating instruments such as sociological theories, to prove useful and relevant to future scientific, professional and citizen practice? Are there “techniques” for analyzing society or, rather, experimenting with models, competing ways of thinking, with which we learn to dialogue and refine knowledge about society? This article argues that theoretical pluri-paradigmatism should be considered a fundamental resource for sociological training, as well as reading and working on original texts, regardless of the classic or contemporary status of these texts.

Keywords : sociological theories; theoretical pluralism; classical works.
