Abstract

CARRIJO, Edilma. “Alone in the network”. Sociologia [online]. 2023, vol.45, pp.57-82.  Epub Aug 15, 2023. ISSN 0872-3419.  https://doi.org/10.21747/08723419/soc45a3.

This article discusses the contributions of network theory in the production of care for pastors in facing tensions and constraints in the exercise of pastoral ministry. The interweaving of religion and social networks allows for an analysis of social dynamics in which religious institutions, beyond their capacity to produce social capital, reveal

themselves as networks of protection and care. The contributions of network theory are

critically discussed from its operationalization in a case study of a Baptist pastor in the city of Rio de Janeiro, arising from this theoretical approach.

Keywords : theory of networks; pastoral ministry; social capital.
